Citizen of the Year

Since 1998, the Kinsmen Club of Fonthill and District have reached out to the local community to nominate someone who exemplifies volunteerism and community spirit, and the people have spoken and nominated Al Crowe as the 2025 Pelham Citizen of the Year!

Al is a member of the Fonthill Lions Club and Branch 613 of the Royal Canadian Legion and is affectionally known as their “Mr. Fixit”, dealing with whatever maintenance task arises. He also works the club’s food trailer at the Pelham Farmers Market on Thursday nights and provides his culinary expertise to the Fonthill Lions as well.

At 83 years young, Al was born in Niagara-On-The-Lake and in his youth worked the family farm, Young Sod’s Supply on Foss Road, and managed a small restaurant named the Fairview for a number of years (located where Mossimo’s restaurant is today).

These days, in addition to the tireless efforts he puts in around the community, Al enjoys a round of golf, a game of bowling, and spending time with his family.

The Kinsmen thank you all for all your nominations for this important event to recognize those who work non-stop behind the scenes in our community! The award dinner will be held Tuesday March 03, 2026 at the Fonthill Legion on Highway 20 in Fonthill. Advance Tickets are available only, and can be purchased for $20.00 at Pelham Printing located at 22 Highway 20 W, Fonthill.
